OUR HISTORY

In December, 1887, Clinton Village Free Baptist Church was organized.  The original building, was completed and dedicated in August,  1887, at a cost of $ 3,800.  The first Pastor of Clinton Baptist Church was Albert Dodge.  The building saw a great number of improvement over the years, including the installation of a baptistry in 1927, and plumbing in 1951!    The church was a faithful beacon of the gospel over the years, with a number of Pastors presiding.   Many people were saved, baptized and entered into the service of Jesus Christ through the ministry.   In 1966, under the leadership of Pastor Dunlop, a 36 x 40 addition was added to the building. In 1977 Clinton Baptist Church became the home of Clinton Christian School., subsequently building a school building which still stands on the grounds in the form of social hall and teen center.  The school was the source of great Christian education for hundreds of young people, including our current Pastor, Mark Philbrick!  The church steeple was struck by lightning one fateful March night in 1983, and was rebuilt in the form it retains now.  Clinton Baptist Church has a rich heritage as a Bible centered  church, with so many more details than what this little writeup could ever encapsulate.  We pray God will continue to use our church to bring glory to Him, and lead many more to Christ in the days to come!

CORE VALUES

of Clinton Baptist Church

Core Values

PEOPLE

Our desire is to honor the Lord Jesus Christ in every aspect of our church. If you visit one of our services, we desire to show you the love and acceptance that Jesus showed people. We want to help bring you true hope, growth, and healing like Jesus did for those He came in contact with

Luke 4:18 "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord."

We all have the same need for the transformational truth found in God's Word, the Bible!

PREACHING

Preaching is the main ministry of our church.  We believe that God uses powerful, practical, accurate, authoritative preaching to reach, help, and transform hearts and lives.

1 Corinthians 1:23-30 "But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of Godecause the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men."

PRAISE

We seek to be guided by truth in our worship, and at the same time, have the right spirit. We will seek an atmosphere of clarity of message, joyful singing, and genuine enthusiasm in serving the Lord!

John 4:23 "Jesus said, 'But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

BELIEFS

THE BIBLE

We believe that the Bible (all 66 books contained therein) is the Inspired Word of God. It did not come by the will of men, but "holy men of God spoke as they were borne along by the Holy Spirit". II Peter 1:20 & 21; II Timothy 3: 15-17. Every word in the original manuscripts, was Divinely inspired.

GOD & THE HOLY SPIRIT

We Believe that the Godhead eternally exists in three persons - the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit - and that these three are One God; having precisely the same nature, attributes and perfections, and worthy of precisely the same worship, confidence and obedience.

JESUS CHRIST

We believe in the Deity of Jesus Christ, His Virgin Birth through which He entered the human race, His sinless life, His death on the cross and the shedding of His precious blood to make atonement for sin, His literal physical Resurrection from the dead, His present High Priestly work in heaven, on behalf of all the Body of Christ, His literal pre-trlbulatlon return to Rapture the Church and His literal pre-millennial return to reign for 1000 years in Jerusalem.

SIN & SALVATION

We believe that man was created prefect by God in the persons of Adam and Eve, but that they disobeyed God and thus became sinners in nature and practice and that their sinful nature has been passed on into the entire human race. Because of this, the entire human race is in need of being forgiven, cleansed and brought back into a right relationship with God. The Bible says that they "must be born again". Only those who personally receive Jesus Christ into their lives as Saviour experience this New Birth. All such are made members of God's Family and are sealed forever by the in-dwelling presence of the Holy Spirit of God. Salvation is by the grace of God through faith and it cannot be attained by human effort or merit. Spiritual growth is dependent upon a right relationship to the Holy Spirit.

ANGELS

We believe in the reality of spiritual beings (good and evil) known as angels. Evil angels have as their leader, Satan, better known as the devil. He is basically responsible for all evil. The ultimate destiny of Satan and his associates is the Lake of Fire. Good angels have their primary abode in Heaven and are sent forth from there to minister to "those who shall be heirs of salvation". All angels, both the good and the evil, are divided into various orders or groups.

NEW TESTAMENT CHURCH

We believe that the Church, the Body of Christ, is made up of all born-again believers from the time of Pentecost until the Rapture. However, the local Church is the only visible manifestation of the whole invisible Body. The local Church has had committed to it, two ordinances - Believer's baptism by immersion and the observance of the Lord's  Supper. The local Church is composed of regenerated, immersed believers, united for the purpose of worship, Christian work and the reproducing of themselves through soul-winning. The local Church is independent and self-governing and is responsible to Christ Jesus alone. The local Church should be separated from Modernism, Ecumenism and Worldliness.

HELL

We believer in a literal Heaven and a literal Hell. Hell in its ultimate state is known as the Lake of Fire, where the devil and his angels and all unregenerate mankind will have their final and eternal abode. The redeemed of all ages, will spend their final and eternal abode with Christ in the New Heavens and the New Earth.
